Seasonal Rhythm
Ladakh has a cold desert climate, characterized by very low rainfall, intense sunshine, dry air and large variations between daytime and night-time temperatures. Summer from June to September is relatively mild during the day, with temperatures often around 20°C-30°C in lower areas, while nights remain cool. Winter from October to April is extremely cold, with temperatures frequently falling well below 0°C, and many high-altitude routes becoming inaccessible because of snow.
The best time to explore Ladakh is June to September, when roads and high-altitude passes are generally accessible and daytime conditions are suitable for mountain journeys, monasteries, villages and landscapes. The brief summer season brings clear skies and dry weather, while the stark winter landscape offers a very different experience for specialized winter travel.
