Seasonal Rhythm

Meghalaya has a temperate, highly rain-dependent climate, with conditions varying significantly between its higher plateaus, Khasi and Jaintia Hills and the warmer Garo Hills. Spring from March to April is mild and pleasant, while the Southwest Monsoon from May to September brings exceptionally heavy rainfall, particularly around Sohra and Mawsynram. Autumn from October to November sees rainfall gradually decline, followed by a cooler and considerably drier winter from December to February.

The best time to explore Meghalaya is October to April, when clearer skies and drier conditions are generally favourable for sightseeing, hiking, caves, villages and scenic drives. March and April offer pleasant spring landscapes, while October and November combine greener scenery with more manageable rainfall. The monsoon months, however, are especially dramatic for experiencing Meghalaya’s waterfalls and rain-soaked landscapes.
